Diet isn’t a bad word
Everyone thinks diet is a 4 letter word with a horrible reputation. When really diet just means what you eat. Why does this word leave a bad taste in our mouths? Shouldn’t it make us happy and jump for joy? Diet is a great thing, a wonderful amazing thing that we can use to heal ourselves, decrease symptoms, and reach 80% of our health goals just by changing diet alone. It’s hard to see that though, with the cookies, pies, fried chips, creamy sauces, and synthetic flavor profiles that have a reach farther than any naturally occurring flavor profile you can grow, easy to grab, take on the go and conveniently eat.
Convenient and unhealthy food is also cheaper to produce and to sell.
It wasn’t always that way, but somewhere the tables turned and suddenly food that does not have good nutrition, increases your chances of being diagnosed with cancer, ADHD, anxiety, depression and infertility is strategically placed in gas stations, at the front of grocery stores, and even served to children in schools.
If you want to get healthy food like our parents grew up on, you need to change your way of thinking.
The first question before you buy food is, is this going to help me or hurt me? If it’s not going to do anything good for your body, why would you want to spend money on it and support a company that has the power to create healthier alternatives but doesn’t?I know it sounds as if I just told you not to eat healthy food ever. This is not true. There does need to be a balance to your diet though which can be successful with the 80/20 rule or what I follow which is the 90/10 rule.
It’s a simple rule that keeps you healthy MOST of the time-80%-90% healthier in fact. Here’s how it works, out of the 21 meals you eat during the week you can eat 2 unhealthy meals or flex meals if you are following the 90/10 rule. If you find that a bit difficult to follow, then try the 80/20 rule and eat 4 flex meals a week. These meals can be WHATEVER YOU WANT. It can be kind of healthy, mostly healthy, or completely unhealthy.
Birthday parties, vacations, and spending time with family and friends happens. That’s why the rule was created! It’s flexible and allows meals where you can switch to nourishing your soul instead of nourishing your body.
Processed foods have shown to increase heart disease, diabetes, ADHD and unwanted weight gain. Don’t take my word for it, you can google what processed food does to you. There are plenty of articles, research studies, and journals on the topic. If you are wanting to reach 80% of your health goals in 3 months, start changing what you eat. Begin with 80/20 and gradually move to 90/10 when you are ready. If the higher number is organic, non processed food that does not contain creams, gluten, and milk, you will be surprised at how different you feel after 3 months.
